How To Make Moving An Easier Process

Moving Day Tips

Please note that this post is sponsored by Florida Smart Moving LLC, but all opinions are my own.

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is when my road-trip is over and Dillon and I decide to move into our future home. After getting married, we received amazing new gifts for our kitchen and other home essentials from our registry. We still have big boxes of items that will need to be transported whenever we move permanently. I am so excited to bring all that over into our future home. Fortunately, there ware some ways to make the process of moving much easier. Whether you are like me and Dillon, who may not have tons of furniture at the moment, but have a lot of other items, there are people who can help you move easily. Today I will be sharing some tips below.

Tips On Having An Effortless Move

1. Get rid of any unwanted items

First and foremost, a good way to get organized and prepare for the moving process is to do some decluttering. Fortunately, I already made a post about decluttering so you could read some of my tips on that blog post. Decluttering helps you get rid of unnecessary items that will add bulk and extra weight when you move. You can actually go room by room and see what items you can sell, donate, or toss.

For instance, if you would like to sell gently used clothes and accessories, you could use the Poshmark or Mercari app to do that. I personally use both and have made sales on both apps. See which one works best for you and go from there.

As for furniture, you could use the app OfferUp or Facebook Marketplace. When it comes to using these resources, be careful with who make sales to so that they don’t scam you. I’ve heard great things about FB Marketplace, but it’s always wise to watch out for sketchy behaviors!

When it comes to decluttering, you can also donate items instead of selling. Goodwill or local thrift shops are great options! Anything that is old and damaged in your home, you’re better off getting rid of it. After you get rid of items that you don’t really need, you will feel lighter and ready to tackle the next steps for moving…

2. Start early

For the procrastinators out there, this tip is for you:) It is definitely a big project to move. It can be a very stressful process for anyone. But going room by room early on and following the step above to declutter is a smart idea. When you have a move out date set, the ball is rolling and you don’t have time to waste. Moving takes time so save yourself the extra stress and start early.

3. Hire help

Moving is definitely not a one man job. To have a more worry-free move, leave it to the professionals to help you out. Furniture often requires two or even more people to carry it. With professionals, you don’t have to worry about hurting your back or causing an injury because they have the equipment needed to move heavy objects.

If you live in the South Florida region like me, Florida Smart Moving are the professionals you need for moving. They are located in Sunny Isles Beach and work in the surrounding areas as well. They offer many different services such as long-distance moving, apartment moving, commercial moving, and even packing services.

With commercial moving in Sunny Isles Beach, for example, you can relocate to your new office with ease with the help of Florida Smart Moving. They will take care of small to large office items. Business interruption is often a concern for someone relocating to another office location. However, with Florida Smart Moving, they will save you time and money when it comes to moving.

If packing all your belongings gives you anxiety just thinking about it, consider hiring them to help you pack up. Certain items need to be packed safely so they don’t get damaged when you arrive in your new home. If you leave it to the professionals, they will do an on-site visit and assess what materials you need to pack everything safely. Or they could offer tips and advice for packing yourself. Once everything is packed up, they will do the heavy duty work of transporting it to your new home!

4. Source materials for packing

While Florida Smart Moving also offers packing materials such as boxes, you can source some yourself. You will need boxes of all sizes for different sized items in your home. You can use smaller boxes for dense items such as books, DVDs, and liquids. With medium sized boxes, you can pack shoes, cans, and electronics for example. With large boxes you can pack certain appliances, bedding, pillows, and heavier coats. Don’t pack super heavy items in large boxes because it could run the chance of breaking. Wardrobe boxes are taller and include a bar for you to hang your clothes. This will make it easier for unpacking and transferring the clothes to your new closet. In addition, there are other specialized boxes that you could source for items such as dishes that are more fragile.

A good tip is to not leave any extra space inside boxes because that could result in things breaking inside. You could use bubble wrap, packing paper, and packing pellets to fill in the extra space and provide stability. Other items you might need are packing tape, box cutters, and moving blankets.

5. Get organized by labeling boxes

Staying organized while moving is so important! You don’t want to create confusion while moving. A good way to know what is what is to simply label the boxes. You don’t need a fancy label machine (although that’s totally cool if you have one), you could just grab a sharpie and label the boxes as you go.

First, I would go by room. Don’t start mixing items from different rooms when packing things up. If you are going to label a box “kitchen appliances” and you have clothes in there too, you can imagine how things will start getting confusing.

6. Save your essentials for last

Last but not least, it’s a good idea to save your essentials for last. Don’t pack those up right away because chances are, you’ll need those items right up until the time you move out. What are these items? Think toiletry items like shampoo, conditioner, medicine, etc. Other essentials include electronics you frequently use such as laptop with chargers or a desktop if you work from home. The bed sheets and comforters that you slept from will also likely be packed towards the end. Finally, save some cleaning supplies to tidy up before you hand over the key, as well as important documents you might need until then.

I hope these tips will help you on your next move!
