A Family Trip to Panama City Beach, Florida: Our Toddler-Friendly Beach Getaway

Alys Beach in Florida

Panama City Beach will forever hold such a special place in my heart. This trip was slow, peaceful, and exactly what our little family needed. Sunny beach days, quiet mornings on the balcony, and the sweetest memories with our two-year-old. If you’re planning a family getaway (especially with toddlers), I hope this guide helps you plan a relaxing and memorable stay on Florida’s Emerald Coast.

Where We Stayed: A Beachfront Airbnb With Easy Access

We stayed in an ocean-facing Airbnb condo, and it made the trip so easy with a toddler. Being able to walk straight down to the beach without packing up the car was a game changer. We could pop back to the condo for snacks, naps, or outfit changes and then head right back to the sand in minutes.

We spent most of our days just by the shore watching our toddler pick up seashells, playing in the sand, and soaking in the calm, salty air. One afternoon, a manatee even swam by the shore, and it was such a beautiful moment to witness from up on our balcony.

And every evening, we ended our day watching the sunset, either on the beach or from our balcony. It never disappointed. The sky turned cotton-candy pink almost every night. It was truly beautiful!

Exploring Alys Beach With a Toddler

One of our favorite afternoons was our visit to Alys Beach. If you’ve never been, it feels like stepping inside a quiet, coastal European village — white buildings, clean architecture, and peaceful pathways. It is so well kept!

We grabbed drinks at Raw & Juicy, and I ordered a lavender matcha (highly recommend!). Right across from the café, we stumbled on the sweetest little playground tucked between the palm trees. Our toddler played as the sun started to set, and the whole moment felt so serene and dreamy.

Alys Beach is such a lovely stop if you want to slow down and enjoy beautiful scenery while still having something for your little one to do.

Where We Ate: Breakfast at First Watch

One morning, we grabbed breakfast at First Watch, and it was such a great spot for families. The menu is fresh, the food is yummy, and there’s always something toddler-friendly on the menu. It’s a great place to stop if you need a reliable, easy breakfast option before heading to the beach.

Our Favorite Part: Slow Beach Days With a Toddler

Traveling with a two-year-old can feel unpredictable, but this trip was the perfect reminder that sometimes the simplest moments are the most special.

Our toddler’s favorite activity?
Picking up seashells. For hours. On repeat.

We loved watching him explore, run freely, and enjoy the soft sand beneath his feet. Panama City Beach has wide stretches of shoreline, making it perfect for toddlers who like plenty of room to roam. Obviously just don’t let them roam too far!

I linked a few items below this post that I brought that made our beach days smoother.

Parent Guide: Extra Things to Do With Toddlers in Panama City Beach

Even though we kept our itinerary really simple this year, there are several fun family-friendly spots in the area that are worth checking out if you want more structure or activities.

Here are toddler-approved options:

ZooWorld Zoological Park

Interactive and low-stress, with animals that toddlers love — kangaroos, sloths, reptiles, and lots of spots for photo ops. A great choice if your child is animal-obsessed.

WonderWorks (Indoor Activity)

Perfect for rainy days or beating the heat. Hands-on science exhibits, a bubble room, kids’ activities, and lots of sensory-friendly experiences.

Shipwreck Island Waterpark

Fun for older kids but still manageable with toddlers thanks to shallow splash zones and slower paced areas.

Pier Park

We visited last year and loved seeing the Christmas lights already set up in November. Lots of shops, seasonal events, and space to walk around.

Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show

I also looked into the newer Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show (right near Pier Park), and it looked family-friendly. We didn’t get a chance to go this trip but it looks really fun! Families can enjoy a pirate adventure complete with aerial acrobats, mermaids, and live animal performers — all while dining on a fun four-course pirate feast. Kids can even get pirate or mermaid makeovers and participate in pre-show fun in the “Pirates Village.” For a toddler, the interactive elements and show could be a magical night out, though the full 2-hour show could be a bit long for younger kids.

Where to Eat for Lunch or Dinner (Kid-Friendly Options)

If you want more dining ideas during your stay, here are other family-friendly restaurants in Panama City Beach:

  • Finn’s Island-Style Grub – Laid-back spot with tacos, bowls, and fresh food. Great for families who want something quick and delicious.

  • Schooners – A classic beachfront restaurant with seafood, American dishes, and a relaxed vibe.

  • Andy’s Flour Power Café & Bakery – Great for brunch or lunch, with plenty of kid-friendly menu choices.

  • Hunt + Gather – Fresh, local, elevated food (better for a nicer dinner while still being family-friendly).

Why We Loved Our PCB Family Trip

This trip reminded us that you don’t need a jam-packed schedule to make beautiful memories. The ocean, the soft sand, the shells, the sunsets, and the little toddler moments were everything we needed.

If you’re considering a family-friendly Florida destination with easy beaches, calm water, and lots of simple joys, Panama City Beach is truly perfect for young families.
