After getting married to Dillon in February of this year, I have been traveling from Airbnb to Airbnb. I’ve seen a good share of Airbnbs and have noted what I liked and didn’t like about them. It has also given me ideas for the future when Dillon and I purchase a home. There are some elements that I know I want in my future home. One of those elements, is a beautiful outdoor space.
Living in Florida most of my life, I’ve come to realize I love the warm weather. I would say from November to March, Florida has the best weather. This is a great time to be outdoors and entertaining. I look forward to my future home when I can be outside every day and taking in some vitamin D or sunbathing by the pool.
Growing up, home decor always intrigued me. I love how you can take any space and make it so much better just by how you style it. I would scroll through magazines of home design and drool over the beautiful styles. For this post, I wanted to share some ways you can elevate your backyard space. I am taking notes myself for when I am able to design my future home!
Elevating Your Backyard Space
1. Backyard lights
Just like indoors, outdoor lighting plays a huge role on ambience! Besides giving visibility, it can set the mood. A warm light in certain areas where people tend to flock outside can make for a cozy atmosphere. Nowadays, there are lighting styles for every taste. You can add string lights on a certain area if you’re more into the laidback style. Lanterns can also look great by lawn chairs or chaises. Landscape lighting can even illuminate a pathway. Personally, while I do love a good outdoor lighting, I find there is a fine balance between elegant lighting and Christmas decor. For that reason, I would keep all the light colors the same for a unified look. For a deck, you can set up step lighting. This can even make it safer because it gives the steps more visibility. And it looks great!
2. Beautiful deck or outdoor patio
Speaking of deck space, Brazilian Wood Depot specializes in creating a beautiful outdoor space. They are a one-stop shop with various styles to choose from. They are the southeast’s premier importer of Brazilian hardwoods. As a Brazilian myself, I’m proud of all the natural resources available in Brazil. Brazilian hardwood is significant because it is dense and durable, which is exactly what you want for an outdoor deck. Brazilian Wood Depot specializes in Ipe Fencing which is the one of the hardest, commercially available, woods in the world. 3. Backyard Furniture
Backyard furniture is fun! You can really get creative here. If you think about what kind of activities you would like to do outdoors, it will help you decide on what furniture to purchase. If you own a pool, for example, a lounging chaise will work great. To step it up even more, an outdoor umbrella can look really nice while providing some shade. If you have a family or more people to entertain, you can set up an outdoor sectional sofa. The possibilities are endless! Also, it’s important not to neglect the smaller details. You can purchase pillows for your furniture with a textile design that has a similar color scheme to your home’s exterior. Or you can go for bolder colors in your pillow cushions that match flowers in your landscaping. Oh, and definitely make sure the fabric is weather-resistant!
4. Firepit
Living in Florida most of my life, we rarely ever need to make a fire to keep warm. But in the few weeks of the year when it’s cold out, a fire pit is always welcome! It can be so cozy to make a fire outside with s’mores and hot chocolate. Fire pits are also great for conversations while everyone sits close together. It adds warmth and a nice ambience.
5. Landscaping
Landscaping can really elevate your backyard space! I have a thing for flowers and they just make me happy! One of the things I love about Dillon is that he has a bit of a green thumb. I told him that when we get a house we’ll have to plant some flowers in the front and maybe plant herbs or fruits like lemons outside in the patio. Besides the fact that flowers and produce grown from your own garden can add a beautiful pop of color to your home, you can eat some of what you plant. Gardening is definitely a skill to be learned. While some can hire landscapers to do the job, there is fulfillment knowing you planted your own garden.
6. Pool or hot tub
A pool or hot tub is definitely on my list for my future home! Since I live in warmer climate, a pool is probably a better investment than a hot tub. But if you live somewhere where it can get chilly, a hot tub could be a better. I’ve never owned a pool, but I know they take a lot to maintain. If it’s something you or your family might use everyday or so, then it could be worth it for you. They’re so fun, especially on holidays when you can have BBQs outside with the family!
Nice furniture!
