Road Trip: Kentucky

Ark Encounter, Kentucky

As Dillon and I were coming close to the end of our road trip, we decided to stop at Kentucky to visit two specific places that I will talk about below. Although we didn’t drive all around Kentucky, I found that the areas we drove through were beautiful. And when it comes to road trips, I appreciate the change of scenery. I’m so used to seeing residential homes everywhere so driving through farms and seeing crops and cattle is refreshingly different.

But to keep it brief, the two places Dillon and I went to were the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. We both come from Christian backgrounds so our beliefs in regards to the beginning of time and how the world came to be may be very different than mainstream beliefs. I can go so much more in depth about these topics but the essence of the matter is we believe that God created the Earth in six days and then rested on the seventh day. Based on the geneologies of the Bible, we believe in a young Earth that is about 6,000 years old as opposed to the mainstream belief that it is billions of years old.

I did grow up going to public schools where they taught evolution, the Big Bang theory, and how the Earth is very old based on carbon dating (which I don’t find to be consistent or accurate)…but that’s a story for later. If you want to talk more about this topic, feel free to DM me on IG and I’d love to chat.

Creation Museum

We purchased the combo tickets that allowed us to visit both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter in separate days. So we did the Creation Museum first. It was definitely eye-opening! I enjoyed learning more about the Bible and how that is the authority to everything in this world. We learned a lot of science too. If you are into science, this place is definitely worth the visit. The museum and Ark Encounter are free for kids 10 and under.

The Creation Museum is great for learning about creation itself. It goes in depth about the authority of the Bible and facts about the Earth. One thing to keep in mind when visiting both the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter is that both locations are about 45 minutes away from each other. You will want to take a day at each location to digest all the information (especially if it’s new information to you).

The museum has an interactive 4D theater which was really cool! It has a bunch of real fossils. Overall I had a great time with Dillon learning more about creation and the process of it.

Ark Encounter

The second day we did the Ark Encounter. Definitely allot a day for this as it’s something you will want to take your time on. The Ark Encounter was a lot of fun! If you only had one day with your family to visit either the museum or the Ark, I would say visit the Ark. The Ark is something the kids will love! Dillon and I kept talking about how much our nieces and nephews would love to visit this place.

When you arrive, a bus will take you closer to the Ark. From there, you can visit the zoo section and ride camels or pet some animals. They also have a nice buffet that you can eat during lunch. The park has other activities you can do such as a zip line tour, experience virtual reality during the time the Ark was being built, and more activities for the family. The spotlight is definitely the Ark though.

The Ark Encounter is built in life-size proportions. It was massive! If you’re familiar with Noah and the flood then you can imagine how big the Ark is to withstand a worldwide flood! If you’re not familiar with the Bible story, definitely give this place a visit to learn the history of Noah’s ark and the flood and how that impacted the world today. Inside, there are three deck levels and each deck is filled with information about the flood and the ark, as well as animal kinds as portrayed in the Bible.

It was such a great experience to visit both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter! Looking forward to visiting again in the future 🙂
